Awful application. Buggy, eats processor usage, and never found a damn thing. Once I installed it, I started getting kernel panics, unrecoverable errors, and all sorts of problems. I uninstalled it ASAP.

Perhaps they could be prodded into supporting something else, seeing as how bad this application is?

i have to use this for my college network - they don't really want people connecting unless they have 'approved' antivirus software installed and running, and they scan the computers before they are allowed on the network...a bit big brotherish, but it could be worse, i suppose... also, i'm using version 8 for macintel, and haven't really had any problems with it hogging the processor, in fact it barely uses any processing power at all. unless it's actively scanning, that is...then it hogs about 95%, heats the cpu to roughly 162 (F), and my macbook's fans racing at roughly 6200rpm.

Virex serves ZERO purpose on the Mac unless you are clearing PC files to keep your PC network from being infected.

Virex is know to be a serious cpu hog.
It came free with my Powerbook (purchased in Summer 04) so I let it run, thinking that everything was fine.
Then I learned about Activity Monitor, which revealed the Virex and its VShield process were perpetually using over 50% of my cpu.
After killing the process and deleting Virex, everything ran MUCH faster.
