Version: 2.1.5 || Release Date: 2014-07-26 || License: GPL Developer: VideoLAN | App Owner: gedasg

VLC (initially VideoLAN Client) is a highly portable multimedia player for various audio and video formats, including MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, DivX, MP3, and OGG, as well as for DVDs, VCDs, and various streaming protocols. It also can be used as a server for unicast or multicast streams in IPv4 or IPv6 on a high-bandwidth network. The most prominent additions to version 0.8.6 are probably Windows Media Video 9 and Flash Video. Other important changes are improved H.264 decoding, better Windows Unicode support, and a full-screen.

I downloaded because of glitch quicktime and thought, "not bad" it's a nice little player, but since then i have found it so useful. Plays everything and has such nice little things that you want a player to do.

a little bit buggy. sometimes (watch VCD) will self create some black screen with is annoying when enjoying.

It can play everything (of coz if its play-able).

my second in command for video playing. my first is mplayer as it has the typical simple keys like mplayer has (cursor for jumping forward, backward, etc) and mplayer also has better cache implementation for network playing. thats something VLC is missing or I couldn't find it in the gazillions of options.

great one! i love the region free dvd and with this i can play some obscure formast whish i otherwise couldn't.

Lets me play DVD's that my family buy and send to me from another DVD region. Without this app my Mac would be next to useless for playing commercial DVD's.

i just moved to the mac from windows. i have been using my windows desktop box to record tv using (excellent btw) iodata's tv tuner card. it writes mpeg files, and on the windows media player, it played ok --- but on absolutely nothing else, not even the windows media player on the mac. i was without a solution until now -- vlc plays them without missing a beat. awesome apps.

The only format you can't play on a Mac with this Ap are protected Windows Media files, but you will never be able to play those on a Mac so... Everyone should have a copy of this.

Best vid app, so very versatile!

When flip4mac poops out on you - and it always does, doesn't it - fire up vlc and rock on.
