Wouldn't it be cool if someone made an application to control this widget that controls the VLC application. Just in case you're not in Dashboard and you need to control VLC.

well, i think it is neat for just controlling vlc when it is minimized and playing an audio playlist.

the new version of VLC has a control overlay appear over the full-screen video when you move your mouse.
