WebKit

Version: r175390 || Release Date: 2014-10-31 || License: BSD License Developer: Apple | App Owner: mt36000

WebKit is an open source web browser engine. WebKit is also the name of the Mac OS X system framework version of the engine that's used by Safari, Dashboard, Mail, and many other OS X applications. WebKit's HTML and JavaScript code began as a branch of the KHTML and KJS libraries from KDE. This website is also the home of S60's S60 WebKit development.

Beh. All my sites look wierd in WebKit/Safari even though they are standards-compliant.

Newer versions complain about Safari's extensions (like SIMBL plugins, I suppose) and crash. I wonder if there's a way not to load and just ignore them at WebKit's start?

And it's not really a "drop in" replacement. It uses the Safari executables (from /Applications/Safari.app) to load with an updated WebKit framework.

This isn't really an accurate description of WebKit. WebKit is the framework that Apple built Safari on. It is not a browser on it's own. It is an open source project, and you can download the latest nightly build which can be less stable but does have more features like SVG support.
