This has been one of my most essential audio tools ever, next to Wave Editor.

Making some noises in Wave Editor, while recording it with WireTap, then bring it back to Wave Editor, is a killer method.

Depending on your preferences, you might (like I do) prefer this version, i.e. WireTap Pro, rather that its successor, WireTap Studio, which I find to be too bloated and clunky to operate.

Got this free from MacHeist and am using it to record LPs. Easy to use, saves almost instantly to compressed format (AAC/MP3), small interface that stays on top. No editing features, but I liked it better for making simple recording that the current WireTap Studio which replaces it. I found WireTap Studio confusing and buggy by comparison. Works well on older hardware (PB G4), and seems to play well with Leopard. Haven't tired the timed recordings, Fission + this would make a good combo (though Fission is a bit light; too bad Audacity doesn't to lossless edits on AAC and MP3 files).
