Yazsoft is really appearing like a shady company to me now. I can understand charging users for an upgrade, but not when you just received 10,000 pretty tech savvy new users. If they would have waited to upgrade for maybe even one more month, they could have gotten away with it. But because all of the MacHeist users fall into the "free upgrade" window, they were stupid to try and charge us. They should have waited until that free window was past us if they had any business intelligence at all.
Please be aware of the current problems surrounding Yazsoft's upgrade policy before deciding to do business with them.
They have used a "bait and switch" scam tactic to try and extract money from MacHeist customers.

My copy of SD seems to have updated to 5 without confirmation! I'm not ready to upgrade and now have to uninstall this DEMO and reinstall v4 (Not sure if i like this kind of behavior, maybe I should just uninstall it and leave it at that).
Don't buy YazSoft products without thinking about it VERY carefully.
They have changed their upgrade policy AFTER many customers purchased their software.
I encourage you to be very wary of YazSoft and if there is another company that produces a similar package to a YazSoft package, go there. YazSoft has proven they have no problem with adjusting their agreements after the fact. This is bad news for the customer.
Yazsoft screwed MacHeist users, AND changed their upgrade policy without notice. They state anyone who bought Speed Download 4 within Jan and Feb would get a free upgrade to Speed Download 5.
Later, they added a sentence stating the upgrade doesn't apply to MacHeist users, who were told they got "FULL LICENSES", and they purchased them within that time period. This is stupid.
Yazsoft is a shady company, and I wouldn't buy anything from them. Oh, and Speed Download seems a bit overpriced.
If you've installed Speed Download and would like to remove it, consider using the Speed Download Uninstaller (by Yazsoft), on iusethis: http://osx.iusethis.com/app/speeddownloaduninstaller
I wouldn't buy products from this company, because they screwed some users, changed their upgrade policies and charge for almost every minor upgrade (they say it's minor, but one of the biggest changes is the version number).
I used this for several years, but the thing that finally killed it for me was that you can't have 2 copies running on 2 different computers at the same time, even if each is exclusively your computer; iGetter is similar in that regard. If you go out somewhere with your laptop, you'd better make sure you don't have Speed Download still open on your desktop unit or it will refuse to launch on the laptop.
As far as the non-free upgrades go, I wouldn't mind paying for one again if they finally gave the interface a major streamlining. SD5 seems to have a "simple" mini-iTunes controller mode now, but I'm more concerned about the clutter and relative lack of intuitiveness of the main queue window: some things that take one step in browser download windows take several in SD, and the list of suggested apps to open files with never seems to jive with what appears in the Finder or Path Finder (I'm talking about 4, but 5's regular window seems to be fairly similar to 4's in screenshots?).
Right now I'm trying out CocoaWget (free) for longer downloads, but I miss having a browser-independent app that can grab downloads from browsers via an internet plugin.
this didn't seem to do anything for my machine...

is there any screencast out there about it?
one of my absolute favorite pieces of software EVER. it just makes so much sense in every way. and it's so lightweight and fast - it's truly a joy to use. the developer also responds very quickly to any issues that one might encounter. the milestone feature (version control) is also superb.
one suggestion that I made to the developer was the possible inclusion of a grid overlay of some kind in the preview window. it didn't sound like that was in his plans, but if that intrigues anyone else, say so!
I agree that it's a beautifully designed piece of software and extremely useful-- but the support is almost nonexistant, and you're on your own when you hit a bug. Which does happen.
my milestones don't seem to be saved, does anybody know why?
Simply brilliant, brilliant simple

this sounds promising. Continue with the hard work
One of the simplest, and easiest to use ways to keep up to date with the Facebook status of your friends. The Growl updates are a great freature
Completely underrated app. I love it.
"Like Twitterific for Facebook, but uglier." :-) Ugly or no, I prefer Facile!

My favourite game all time. If I start playing I'll have to go to rehab in a couple of days
FYI, you need the original TTD data files to play this game. (Legally, of course!)

Pretty cool, works just fine. The only bad thing is that the uploaded videos go to the screencast website which is not free

I'm very disappointed with SpeedDownload because they recently decided to charge to upgrade to version 5. I haven't used v5, but 4.1.1, that I also bought from MacHeist, didn't feel like a mac app, more like a windows program. It seems that they have included a mini-itunes-like small version, but this won't make me pay for the upgrade.
I feel Yazsoft can't ask its customers to pay for an upgrade one month after buying the app. I won't use SD again and recommend you to do the same.
