Comment and replies on Shiira:
My new favourite browser.
Thanks for adding this!
Like Safari.... but much cooler. If you like safari I would suggest trying Shiira.
Better and faster than safari
I liked it a lot, but it didn't give me any reason to switch from Safari.
Wow, has an option to import your bookmarks, including your bookmarks bar. Yay.
Found my new browser.
I just switched to Shiira from Firefox, like five minutes ago. I must say, I'm incredibly impressed. I can't wait for v. 2.0! Now that looks AMAZING.
I like it, but I always find myself back on Safari. 2.0 screenshots look promising.
This is my main browser, and i really luv it
The leaked 2.0 beta isn't too functional yet, but in a few months, I will definately see an increase to my use of this phenomenal browser, which I use for tracking RSS feeds and browsing 10 or more tabs. Great features, great look.
It's what I'm using now. I usually just use Safari, becuase it's solid as a rock, but Shiira is so much faster, and has quite a few more options. My ultimate goal is to wait it out for Shiira 2, which looks great.
Using the just released beta for Shiira 2.0 and I must say the featureset is really nice. The one main problem is that for beta it is still rather buggy. Still worth the download though.
I'm just itching for Shiira 2. Honestly, I am so ready for the switch.
I don't use this current version os Shiira but I'm keeping a close eye on Version 2.0 - from the Beta 1 I have here it's looking very promising indeed.
When I first saw Shiira a while back it didn't offer enough to take the place of Safari but the current 1.2.2 release does, serving up better performance and some nice extra features. You might also be interested in the bug-fixes that Brad at AppleNova has beaten the project developers to:

IN a contest between safari 2.0 and Shiira 2.0, safari will win hands down. However, that is not to say that shiira is not an awesome browser. I've been using the 2.0 beta for a while on and off and the fact is that shiira was just late to the game on a few necesary features, where as otehr browsers quickly caught up to shiira's innovations. I love the tabbed browsing on shiira, and it is bullet fast. However, firefox has both of those (although there is no denying shiira launches faster than anything human). However, unlike firefox, safari, and Opera, Shiira has no rss and does not even contain a search bar, nor does it allow offline mode which has become a necessary feature for web 2.0 browsing. Shiira was way ahead of its time, but it forgot to innovate while the other browsers rapidly surpassed it.
Er, diggn_it, fair enough you are a confirmed Firefox fan, but please, try to make accurate posts about software. The great thing with IUT is that we can all contribute to the community and our user experiences help others make an informed choice about what software best suits their needs.
Saying that "... unlike firefox, safari, and Opera, Shiira has no rss and does not even contain a search bar ..." is frankly bizarre. The latest stable build of Shiira DOES support RSS and has a great search bar with user-configurable engines! The version 2.0 preview is just that - an early look that is currently still (very much) in beta and far from complete - features mysteriously come and go in the nightly builds!
Er... pxl, Don't lecture me on what iusethis is for, and DO NOT accuse me of misinforming anyone when everything I said was true. Shiira, as of time of post, did not have any of the things I said it didnt have. Apparently this has since changed, but I dont see you scolding peoples complaints on firefox 1.5 because they have since fixed them. Taking into account the new features, this does chnge my perspective, but you could have just nicely informed me of this instead of calling me out (especially since I gave it a pretty good review before).
So, in light of recent changes, Shiira is looking like a more and more comperable browser. However, I think it will be hard to beat the new safari come june. Who knows though? with extensions this may well beat firefox out as my web browser of choice (yes I like firefox, but I like Shiira too!)
i'm waiting for 2, too. i love shiira but it's not good enough.. yet. when it can handle gotomypc and wordpress no problem, i'm down.
Thanks for your reply diggn_it.
Just to clarify a few of the points you made in your post dated 2006-11-16:
"...everything I said was true."
No, you claimed that Shiira was lacking features that it has.
"Shiira, as of time of post, did not have any of the things I said it didnt have."
The latest stable version of Shiira (the one that is listed here at time of writing) is 1.2.2, which was released on March 14, 2006, complete with the RSS and search bar features that you mistakenly said were missing in your post of October 25, 2006.
"Apparently this has since changed"
The current stable version of the software was actually released over seven months before you posted your comments.
Hope this helps avoid any more misunderstanding!
