Comment and replies on Vienna:
This is fantastic. I've tried newsreaders in the past and kept going back to the browser, but I'm sticking with Vienna. Fantastic.
To me, this is the best priced (free), cleanest, and best RSS reader on the Mac.
to me is one of the best RSS readers on every platform .... now if it only could use the gekco engine instead of webkit i'd die as an happy man :-)
I must say I'm impressed by that free app. I really like the 3 columns view and the way you can navigate through them with the arrow keys. The integrated browser feels snappy and the overall performance is very solid. And as a bonus, just like with Adium, you can customize the style view to your liking. Vienna has now become my RSS reader of choice!
i only must say that this great software is very addictive and that is nothing good hehehe congratulations and keep it!
This app could potentially be great, but as soon as you start to subscribe quite a few feeds the application becomes slow and unresponsive. As a result I grudgingly went back to newsfire.
I was a hardcore NewsFire user, but due to the developer's arrogance I was forced to seek another RSS reader. I had my eyes on Vienna for a long time, but the newest version introduced Unified layout which is absolutely brilliant. This feature, together with the ability to change styles (CSS templates really) made me a Vienna believer. A big thanks to the devs for bringing to maturity a great open source RSS reader!
best free newsreader out there for mac os x
Really great software. I had bounced around trying everything until this one. This one really does it all right.
I'd like to add a few words to the previous posts...
Over the last months I've been using Vienna and NewNewsWire Lite.
NetNewsWire Lite has a nicer interface, with a customizable toolbar, and is a little faster.
Vienna, although not so so fast and not so "beautiful", does just the same. And it does something more: it has a built-in browser. You can read the full news without opening an external browser. To have that in NetNewsWire, you have to pay 30 dollars for the full featured version.
Although I prefer the look and speed of NetNewsWire Lite, I use Vienna more often because the built-in browser is a plus.
And let's not forget that Vienna is completely free!
(But that's just my opinion. Everybody else has the right to think any other way.)
i'm so happy to have finally found a really awesome solution for rss feeds. as much as safari's rss reader was sort of simplistic it had a few things i liked and vienna is all that and a whole heck of a lot more.
If you want, you can try an aqua version of Vienna, made by the developer of Cyberduck. It looks very nice!
But be careful, it's still in beta.

Love this app. Its at the forefront of my new RSS-obsession.
This new version (2.2.0.2200) has a different look, with a customizable toolbar.
Unfortunately, IMHO, it has not an Aqua-look yet.
But it's still my favorite RSS/Atom reader.
(Yes... I agree. NetNewsWire is great too.)
This version 2.2.0.2201 is the very first one without the brushed metal interface.
And it just looks great!
This new look of Vienna is excellent!
And it's faster than previous versions.
Thanks, developer!
Where's version 2.2.0.2205?
The download link leads to version 2.2.0.2204.
Thanks, fixed

I'd bought and been using NNW for ages - until they required me to sign up for an account with NewsGator just to continue using software I'd already bought. So I switched to Vienna, which is a little buggy at times but otherwise great. A worthy and less evil replacement.
Just goes to show it doesn't matter how great your product is if you act like an ass you'll lose customers.
