Comment and replies on Safari:
I agree with schmiddi. Everytime I try something else -- Firefox, Shiira, Camino -- I always return to Safari.
I despise Safari and I think they really need to take some time from iPod development and work on this app. But hey, I use it because it easily syncs all of my bookmarks with .Mac and my laptop.
Safari is nice because you get to see all of those well-designed, informative, accurate, and inviting web advertisements. I tried Camino for a while. The Internet wasn't ugly enough. I likes my internet like I likes my TV, Radio, Newspapers, and Magazines - 60% ads.
Like many others, I've tried them all and really USED them all for varying lengths of time and despite I keep coming back to Safari. It's pros outweigh its cons by a greater margin than FireFox, Camino, Omniweb, Opera, and Shiira. My latest affair was with Camino but I've finally come home to mama.
Safari is fast. Fanstastic RSS Integration. The BEST Mac OS X integration (obviously). Most efficient system resource usage.
Install the Saft tools, and Safari holds its own with Firefox, OmniWeb, you name it.
Safari with Saft tools absolutely rocks! Get Saft! I do use Firefox, but mainly for its developer tools extension.
I use Safari when I want to look something up quickly or open a page from another application. Pithhelmet cuts down on the ads greatly.
Then I use Firefox for "heavy" browsing.
Unbeatable combination.
It took me a while to find the right combo of extensions to match what I expected after using Firefox (An excellent browser, I love the extendability), but Safari Stand, SafariBlock, and Inquisitor make Safari better.
For you web developer types, http://www.zappatic.net/safaritidy/ is pretty awesome.
Simply the BEST browser out there (including Camino and Firefox).
Clean and simple. There's very little more that I can ask from it at the moment. Well, maybe more speed :)
I have just discovered Safari after years and years of using Netscape, then Mozilla then Firefox and I must say I'm very happy with it. Safari is a great browser.
I use Safari for 99% of my browsing, but its memory-leak problems annoy me mightily. I have to Quit it once a day at least to reclaim hundreds of megs of RAM that it latches onto. If I don't do that, my PowerBook and Mac Mini start swapping to death. But it's a good browser.
I do love safari. It is fast, clean, and has rss and integrates very well with the OS. However, the two problems I have with it are that its proxy configuration takes time to change because it is in the system preferences, not in the browser and unlike firefox there are no extension to handle the switching. My other problem, though not as large is that gmail chat does not work with safari, nor do most google tools although they claim to be working on better integration. Still, I love safari and when 2.0 comes out, firefox might have some heavy competition. If safari had extensions then it would win hands down.
webkit is a requirement, imho. every since using the nightly builds a la webshift, adding type to search via fiwt, using sogudi to easily search multiple search engines, and taking advantage of thumbnail tabs from safaristand, i've been really happy. i finally got rid of firefox today.
Safari is my favorite browser but the HUGE memory leak problems spoil it. Why don't they fix it? Everyday Safari reduces my machine to a crwl using gigs of virtual memory and hundreds of megabytes of real memory. You constantly have to quit it in order to free up resources.
The memory leak is fixed in the nightlies.
Safari fans can get some useful plugins and apps at

I prefer Camino; for extensions, themes, applications, etc see

3.0 beta is pretty sweet. still has the brushed metal, but the tabs to new window thing is pretty cool, and it seems to load pages a bit faster and it handles tabs MUCH better. No more beach ball after three tabs are opened. I switched from camino to safari, so I think it's probably the best browser for mac if you don't need extensions. It also has spell check, but it may have always had that...
download the beta at: http://apple.com/safari

Safari the default browser on the Mac works well and is standards compliant.
It was one of the first brosers to pass the "ACID-2" test.
It was based on the Open Source KHTML browser.
I use it as my primary browser for all my browsing needs.
I have firefox and Camino, but hardly use it.
