Comment and replies on CoverSutra:
I also like to have all the notifications taken care of by growl. The best solution for me so far is Menuet. Shows growl notifications an let's me set Hotkeys to control iTunes.
Does this handle any cover art functions besides showing it in the display?
It always amazes me that people use Quicksilver to control iTunes. I love Quicksilver, and I tried using it to control iTunes - it's terrible! The plug-in seems to just be a pile of applescripts, and is an ungodly slow way to do things in iTunes. When someone is trying to talk to me, and I hit pause, I want it to pause now. Coversutra is quite quick at this. I couldn't justify the price before, but now that v2 has searching, I'll rarely even have to use the iTunes interface. That makes it worth the price to me. That said, the searching UI could use some improvements... IMO, it should behave more like spotlight, where enter plays the top hit. Also there should be a way to play album in iTunes instead of song (from the search dropdown) without using the mouse. It really is lovely software though - both visually and functionally.
Is Coversutra 2 going to be available to 1.2 owners?
Whats up with the hating? Coversutra is a nicely designed app, thats pretty low price and does what it says.

Yes version 2.0 is a free upgrade for existing customers. You should have received your new serial by mail.
I bought this, received a code for 2.0 but as I am running OSX 10.4 I need to use the older 1.2 version. Whilst I am able to download this version my serial number does not work and the author has not responded to the multiple support emails I have sent so sadly I cannot use this software, even though I have paid for it.

May you please download version 1.2.1 from my website (http://coversutra.com/get/1.2/). This version accepts both the 1.x and the new 2.x serial numbers.
I'm sorry that you didn't received any reply from me. I always reply to support stuff like this so I guess either your mail to me or my e-mail to you got lost.
Thanks very much! I'll be sure to give that a go.
Thanks. Just tried that and all is well.
I've been reading about CoverSutra for awhile now, but Synergy + Growl made it unecessary for me.
I purchased the MacHeist bundle which included CoverSutra, and now that I've given it a try, I'm very happy with it. Good job!
This is one of those applications that once you've used it, you'll love it. But its not a necessity.
I tried it before but I didn't like its appearance, but now it seems to have gotten a new skin, the little heart icon and the search "pop up" you get when you click it is excellent
now I've had it for a while, and the conclusion: definitely worth it's money, better last.fm support than the official plugin (which doesn't really work well with Leopard)
Coversutra has the feel of an application that was made just for you. You click on a tab in the preference pane, and all the options you want are there, no more, no less. thank you. Great application.
I don't understand the appeal of this app. Just about everything CS does you can accomplish with Quicksilver for free.
To put it succinctly (and without trolling), just because a given app works for you doesn't mean it works for someone else.
I got this as part of the MacHeist bundle this year. I am surprised by this app. I love having a dedicated search menu for my music (when i do a search for "landed" i get 40 results in spotlight, only 1 in coversutra) i also love the shortcuts f6 to bring the quick controls up, and the album art thing on the desktop... it's all super elegant, and really worth checking out.
I was using TotalTunesControl, which is free, but it would use like 10% of CPU most of the time, and sometimes hang up with 70-80%, and often didn't show the favorites (which duplicated functionality I had with Hallon anyway)....so I downloaded the CS trial and it's been running at 0.1% of CPU. I think I'll buy it along with the rest of the new MacHeist bundle.
I have actually turned off my QuickSilver triggers for iTunes so I could use CS to do the same functions. It is much more integrated. Also the Growl notification with cover art included is a good leap over the last.fm clients notifications.
Can't say I like the recent apparently pointless and unnecessary changes that shrunk the album art ridiculously on both the desktop and the mini controller.

regarding 2.0: i think the whole point of growl notifications is so that applications don't have to have their own notification system, and everything looks standardized. and also, it won't show growl notifications when you, the user, change the song. only when it completes a song and then goes to the next song. i understand you can disable the coversutra notifications, but then you don't know what song is playing when you fast forward, except by listening. i'm sure the pretty graphics could be put into the growl notifications, and if you want the bezel style, you can have it in growl. but why force us?
and also: you can't select a single key as a hotkey, it has to have a modifier. i like to use the tilde key, personally.
until these problems are taken care of, i'll stick with totaltunes control.
