Comment and replies on OpenOffice.org:
Hmm...using a G5 with 1.5GB ram, I don't see a lot of difference in performance from NeoOffice. Still pretty sluggish for me.
I've used it since Windows. And now on Mac OS X I think it is the best free office suite.
Comment and replies on PowerMate:
I don't like this new 2.0 version. I still can find how to change the general configuration.
Comment and replies on SSH Tunnel Manager:
Nice, but its documentation web page should be updated.
I just noticed the website has only a powerpc version. Luckily the author's website has the source code so I quickly compiled an universal binary here:
http://www.chocoflop.com/misc/stm_ub.zip
Better than launching Rosetta for that!
Comment and replies on MySQL Administrator:
When creating an index for a big table, I use MySQL Administrator to monitor the key_buffer_size usage. If you set it big enough (in /etc/my.cnf) it is a zillion times faster.
Comment and replies on Compare Folders:
Thank you sarnesjo! I didn't know FiIeMerge could do that so well.
I can only describe FileMerge as "disgustingly slow" when talking about directories of 500+ files. There's a reason it's free.
Functionality does not a utility make.
Comment and replies on iBatt:
This product seems better than the competition. It is a shame that it seems to be dead. From their website:
"The following apps are no longer supported by Rayner Software, but they are still available for download. Feel free to try them out."
Comment and replies on SQLGrinder:
Excellent software. The query auto-complete (just press ESC) and syntax coloring are very well implemented.
Two things I don't like:
1) When you do table joins, in the resulting window, the name of the tables is not prepended to the column names.
2) You can set the "Maximum rows to fetch" in the preferences, but I prefer to have it like in Navicat: "Number of rows per page". So if I set the preference to 1000 and I need to see record 1001, I can just go to page 2.
Alright software, could be better if it was updated more often. Unfortunately it's the best currently available for OS X (at least that I've used).
List of things that drive me nuts
• Lack of support JDBC URIs (ie: jdbc:jtds:sqlserver://server)
• Ability to hide result set to have a bigger editor (i mean it is an IDE, no?)
• When in the browser i can't seem to find a hot key for the search box/field
• The ability to support multiple statements using by terminating them with “GO” or semicolons (preferably an option).
• “Delete line” key
• Refactor/Tidy code.
Hi !
I currently use SQLEditor.
I tested SQLGrinder and SQLeditor at the same time. My preferences first went to SQLGrinder (but I don't remember why !) but after a short trial of SQLEditor I gave up SQLGrinder.
SQLEditor have a wonderfull support ! I send few feedback and each time I had answer and problem were solved in the next release (monthly).
Comment and replies on Navicat:
My only complains are that the windows version has more features. And that the Filter Wizard has an ugly, nonstandard and complicated user interface . Besides that, it is an excellent program worth its price.
Most useful piece of shareware I've ever paid for. The HTTP tunneling feature has made my life so much easier for cheap clients with restrictive shared hosting.
I like SQLyog better, but on the Mac this is as good as it gets.
The HTTP tunnel feature didn't work so well for me (on a MacBook, switching networks) so I started using AlmostVPN which is very nice.
hey guys, i strongly recommend sqlyog - http://webyog.com is really wonderfull mysql database management which is an outstanding one and also has free community version. No second thought just try like me!!! Has better GUI and most powertools. why do you want to pay extra to navicat????
Comment and replies on Stellarium:
It didn't work for me. It crashed my MBP Core Duo 2 on launch.
You have to trash the old Stellarium config.ini file because it won't work if it launches straight into full screen. New icon sux, can someone send me the old .icns image? si@simonm.postpro.net

I have been using it, and I like it. I have already trashed Neo Office as this runs much faster. I have had very few crashes.
