Comment and replies on Perian:
Hagena, currently it's in beta and they don't want the link passed around to much because of that. The download links on the site just point to the homepage the links are one for the time being.
Heh, thats nice to know. Yesterday I spent 20 minutes looking online for where to download it.
The fact that it hasn't even been released yet should probably be in the description...
try this link
http://perian.org/beta/
The component is now available for download from the main site: http://www.perian.org/. And I must say that it is fabulous!
It was released today! http://www.perian.org/
hey dudes! It rocks!
Use it! go download it right now! ;)
Great OSS software!
when i try to open the .dmg, it gives me an error (format not recognized or something...) damn
@ hagena and @ oddyssey:
I had the same trouble when using Safari....it downloads to a .bz2 file....
Either use another browser, or simply take the ".bz2" extension off, making it perian-12.dmg.
We fixed the download folks.
this rocks.
Not much to say, aside from that this = awesome.
Very. Very. VERY useful. One of the first things I install on any Mac I get my hands on (I keep it handy on my flash drive at all times).
This thing is fantastic.
And the roadmap looks oh so tasty. It will soon (I hope) support: subtitles, VOB, MKV, OGG, OGM, X264... Hmmmmmm! Can't wait!
I just read that the Apple TV runs OS X, and that someone has managed to get Perian on their Apple TV's HD and it works.
Great, stuff plays everything in Quicktime that means FrontRow that throw at it.
Fantastic!
With every release Quicktime gets more Powerfull then VLC!
Not that i have something against VLC, it's without doubt a great app,
but somehow nearly everytime i play something errors pop up or it crashes.
This just won't work for me... I have a ton of AVI files encoded with XviD and AC3, and quicktime says 'may not have the components to play this, blah blah blah' - and there's no audio when I hit cancel. So wtf. Sigh... And VLC likes to crash every 5 fsckin minutes, I have NOTHING to play my videos with other than waiting for them to convert in visual hub and importing them into iTunes.
Excellent! It does flv playback.
Coupled with Quicktime Pro, this becomes the ultimate conversion software.
Essential.

surely I'm not the only one who can't get it to download
