I can't stand this. I just have to wait for Picasa to get ported to OS X.
While it is pretty good feature-wise, its terribly slow on my 1.9GHz G5. It takes about 40+ seconds to load my library, 2,000 3000×1900 pictures. I hope Picasa for OS X is out soon.
Painful to use for anyone who switched from Windows and knows how much better and faster Picasa is :/
Very nice slideshow feature, the albums and UI are generally very user-friendly. Kind of wish there was a way to avoid the replication though, as iPhoto Diet doesn't quite work for me and it'd be good if the option was simply built-in.
It's one of the best photo application I found all around. I use iut together with iView which does the archiving, tagging, seaching for me. iPhoto does the quick presentation etc.:
+ easy to use
+ easy to categorize pictures (KeywordManager and iPhotoLibraryManager and some other apps help a lot)
+ manages all my photos (>50.000)
+ GPS-plugins available for GoogleEarth
+ slide shows easy & quick
+ good&quick tools to correct photos for slide show
- managing of duplicates
- no update feature to add photos in the folders directly and not in iPhoto
- could be mor stable
(list is not complete)
As a non-professional user I tried Aperture and came back to iPhoto. There is nothing I miss in iPhoto and it has basic support for image enhancing, cropping etc.
What I really HATE on iPhoto is the storage of files. I decided to disallow iPhoto to rearrange my photos and move them around the hard disk. I prefer to create directories on my own, since a filesystem is a good enough database for me, I don't want applications to do it. Good that this optin can be choosen in iPhoto.
iPhoto seems to have colorspace issues on my machine. Everything ends up too warm and oversaturated when viewed in iPhoto (vs Preview on the same machine).
If I try manually adding a color profile to the images with "sips", the image's appearance in changes in Preview, but not in iPhoto.
In my opinion they have screwed the photo exposure slider in iPhoto 7. It has a different behaviour compared to iPhoto 6.
Comment and replies on Transmission:
I found another Transmission bug- it somehow keeps lots of connections open in CLOSE_WAIT state. This eventually makes it impossible to open new connections so the app has to be restarted. No other client I have used has this problem.
All of the mentioned 'bugs' (bar one) have been fixed in the nightly version, and the remaining issue is in the process of being sorted out.
Pay no attention to the comments below the first few. Transmission is great and does work on Demonoid. The bugs to my knowledge have been fixed and it's worked perfectly for me.
So, I'm wondering when the next version is coming out. According to the website, their last release was on June 25 of 2006. That's pretty much half a year ago. And yet, all the releases before 0.6.1 didn't take as long to release. The only way that one would know that it's development is continuing is if you were to take a look at their nightly build section:

The new version 0.7 is in developement, and it looks good. Check out here : http://chucker.mystfans.com/opensource/transmission/Transmission-latest.dmg
Okay, so 0.7 is still in development. Why is this now called 0.7? It's not out yet!
Transmission works fine with demonoid and other trackers. One big problem, after the download is complete, you HAVE to check the files by stopping the torrent, dragging the file of folder out of the transmission folder, restarting the torrent, stopping it again, and then dragging the original file or folder back to the tranmission folder (overwriting the new files transmission created). Then start the torrent again, transmission will now check the download again. Often, there is a error and a small portion needs to be downloaded again. It would be nice if Transmission would doublecheck the downloads before declaring them compleet!
Been using it for quite a while in lieu of bigger, badder alternatives.
It often downloads quicker than the alternatives in my experience. Even vs Azureus. And as to it being banned on trackers, I've never come across it. I keep hearing about it, and it keeps working everywhere I need it to.
* shrug *
That said, I truly truly wish uTorrent would make a Mac build. Nothing has ever been even remotely as fast as uTorrent.
Please contribute to the bounty for encryption.

If we get encryption in Transmission, Xtorrent will have it as well. I think that's well worth it.
0.7 is out. All I can say is wow. I shied away from using Transmission before but this release is really good.
Comparing this with Azureus is like trying to match a Mac with a PC wreck anno 1997.
Azureus - which disappointingly seems to be the 'de facto' standard client - is so accumulated of bloat and a mess to configure (I hear it doesn't even ship with the proper settings pre-configured for optimal efficiency).
Transmission is a Mac app.
It would be a shame not to see it being considered legitimate on trackers in general, if not to say, a horrible tragedy. But now, seeing that they've changed a whole lot in the app, and hopefully conformed to most of the general praxis, there seems to be a chance for a very welcome revival! Granted, I know that at least one of the vital trackers out there has changed their policy towards allowing Transmission once again.
