Comment and replies on KeyRemap4MacBook:
I know for sure that I didn't have double command installed, but i was wondering do you have an older macbook, because I just got mine in December.
love this! i use it on my MacBook to disable the CAPSLOCK key ans remap the little enter to forward delete. works like a charm.
look first, post later... i meant doublecommand, and then i found out that causes kernel panics, so now i use neither one. miss my forward delete, though.

This program may look a bit more like other Mac applications, but for those wanting a free alternative to Total Commander/Midnight Commander/Krusader, I suggest that you look for muCommander, which has more features including FTP support. However, this is also a viable alternative for those who don't need the extras or who are having problems running Java-based programs.
Comment and replies on muCommander:
If you are used to using programs such as Total Commander, Midnight Commander, Krusader, etc. you will definitely want this program on your Mac - it may lack just a few of the "extras" of some of those other programs (e.g. the built-in multi-file batch renamer of Total Commander) but there is other free Mac software that will perform such functions, and muCommander contains everything you really need in this type of program. Minor nit: I do wish they'd come up with a nicer icon - the one they have in this version would be more at home on an Apple II or Commodore 64 (of course that is easy enough to replace with an icon of your choosing).

texasfreak, is it possible you had some other sort of keyboard modification program (such as DoubleCommand) installed? This program has worked flawlessly for me BUT the author tells you that you must uninstall DoubleCommand or other similar keyboard hacks first. Which makes sense - you really don't want two different keyboard hack programs trying to modify the keyboard in possibly conflicting ways. I love this program because it finally lets me use the directional keys on my numeric keyboard, which is the one thing I sorely missed when moving from a PC. I'm sorry to hear you had problems with it.
By the way, in my earlier comment I said I wasn't sure what "Application key to F11" did, well now I realize the Application Key is the rarely-used key between the right Windows/Option key and the right Ctrl key on a standard PC keyboard - on a PC it's typically used for opening application menus. With the proper box checked you can make this key (unused on a Mac) duplicate the action of F11, which is an instant shortcut to the desktop. I'd personally find it more useful to have it emulate F9, but it's not a big deal because it's easy enough to just press F9 in the first place, and I never used that key on a PC anyway!
