Comment and replies on DigitEyeOCR:
Wow, who uses this? HOW do you use it? As mentioned in the earlier post, it doesn't recognize most image formats, which is odd. Only GIF and BMP. But even then, it doesn't do anything. If you click "recognition" it looks like it's doing something and then does nothing. The How To file in the download claims a .deo file should be created on my desktop, which I can then open with the programs text editor before saving as a useful file format, but it never exports anything.
Also, there are pretty glaring typos in the How To pdf file as well as within the program, which causes me to be not so surprised that this program doesn't actually work.
Comment and replies on Joost Beta:
Any appeal that Joost once had is lost now that Hulu.com is available.
l2g:
Maybe so, if you're an american citizen. Currently, Hulu doesn't stream to users outside the USA.
Not good. Usually crappy channels and also few of them. Quality of streaming is good, but not that good. Not to mention lots of ads. No, I had to delete it. It had nothing for me.
Comment and replies on VectorWorks 2008:
There appears to be no download for this at all. So should it even be on here?
Other than patch releases, its not a downloadable program.
Comment and replies on SVN Notifier:
This seems to be the problem: If you are using a non-Apple binary of Subversion (i.e. if you are not using Leopard yet), this widget may have trouble finding your binary. I was able to get it to work by manually editing SVN Notifier.js in the package contents.
Comment and replies on EVE Online:
Fun and very addicting game. Combat options are available, but players looking for white-knuckled aim-and-shoot action will probably want to look elsewhere. This is more like an update of the classic space-trading genre, but oh, what an update. Be aware of a couple of things: (1) You can save as much as 25% over a monthly subscription by buying time cards from approved, third-party ETC sellers. (2) Lots of spammers will try to sell you ISK (game money) for real money. Don't cheat yourself and your fellow EVE players! If you want to do something like this, you are allowed to purchase an ETC from an approved seller, then trade it in-game for ISK; it is only the direct, money-for-ISK exchanges that are forbidden.
Comment and replies on Eve Skill Monitor:
Dang it, I was going to use this idea as a personal exercise for widget writing, and now I see someone's already done it! :-)
This is a great little utility. Now, if only the EVE-Online client itself worked well on Mac (or at all for the premium/new client). And EVE-MON on mac would be fantastic, too.
Eve Skill Monitor is a great start, though. Superb little utility.
Comment and replies on Countdown:
There is no one countdown tool for OS X that I like best; every one I've tried has strengths as well as serious flaws. This one is no exception.
Things I like here: the menu bar clock, which can be dropped down to show ALL running countdowns; countdowns can be entered as specific time intervals or as a date/time target; presets to quickly call up often-used time intervals for specific purposes.
Things I don't like: no way to apply meaningful text labels to countdowns unless they are entered as presets; no way to save the program's state, thus LOSING all running countdowns when the app quits.
Not pretty, but it works. As @I2g mentions, the key here is the menu bar clock. This is nothing compared to Minuteur, but it is great for minimalist always-visible menu bar countdowns.
I can't get it to work, it crashes all the time!
Comment and replies on Quicksilver:
If you're a fan of command lines and Macs, you should try Quicksilver. It's the best of both worlds. Watch your step on that learning curve, though.
Apple should buy Blacktree Software for ten bazillion dollars just so this amazing app is never missing on any mac. ever.
killer application
This has to be the greatest utility for the Mac EVER! I hate using Mac without it, it can do so much, but even as just an application launcher it's fantastic. Must have!
must have.
i have no idea how to use a mac without this anymore...

I tried this on a MacBook Pro with OS X Tiger and found it to be worse than useless. Trying to OCR a GIF image (apparently the only kind of image it would even load), it wouldn't do more than hang. Hey, at least it's open source, so maybe someone with more skills/patience than I will make it work.
