I'll fix the description, but so everyone knows, there are two modes. One is free (loop point editing, crossfade editing ,etc) and one is paid (advanced metadata editing). The latter is only necessary for those who are creating libraries of ACID and or Apple Loops files.

You're right, saxphile, it's a lie of omission. He or she should have said the 30-day trial is free. A single-user license will run you $1195 USD.
My apologies, I must have mischecked the "license" box. The actual prices, in addition to what latrent said, are as follows:
$1195 perpetual license
$595 perpetual academic license
$49.95 single-year academic license

I can't speak for G5 users, Canadians, Alaskans or great mother Russians, but anyone with a MacBook or MBP needing to download large files overnight from slow servers will appreciate the darkness this screensaver provides.
Can't you do the same thing in Energy Saver? Just turn the screen turn-off time earlier. It powers them down too, doesn't it?
So awesome. I've been looking for this for a long time.
groxx: I believe that, with this, you can invoke the black screen manually, as opposed to the Energy Saver, which only does it if you've been inactive for a certain amount of time.
This is so wicked. Nice and simple like it should be. Better than just putting a black jpeg in a folder for the screen saver.

I hope whoever "owns" this entry will clean it up. According to the company's web site, Loop Editor is free. Loop Editor Plus costs $50US.
