I've tried the other "trashers," and they seem fine, but this one works very well for me and it's free. It's also inconspicuous, with a tidy drag-n-drop window - no flash or hype. It does not always get those pesky plists tucked away in strange places, though, but the same can be said of the other utilities like it. It's never tossed anything essential to my system or crashed, and leaves a nice folder in the Trash for review before flushing (my Trash icon & sound are the notorious toilet set snicker). Works fine on OS X 10.4.10. Give it a try.
I haven't tried the others but I find this one very handy - it fits in my dock next to the 'other' trash and I don't have to 'start an app' just to 'delete an app'. Great timesaver, and you can't beat the price!
version 2 is out. awesome improvements, but no longer freeware
Hi this is Reggie the Developer for AppDelete. I just want to post saying that the all new Version 2.0 is out and available for download. This site has not been updated yet but in the meantime you can download it directly from my website by clicking on "Homepage" above. I hope you will all enjoy the new version and thank you for using AppDelete! :-)
Sincerely,
Reggie
i stopped using this app when it asked me to pay 5$ for further use...
Agreed, since the "donation" demands stopped it working I'm no longer using this. Though if you use your smarts the previous version is pretty easy to find.
Otherwise: http://osx.iusethis.com/app/appcleaner is free, and does the same job.
It's interesting how some people are willing to spend $5 on something they're going to pour down their throat in less time than it will take me to finish this sentence, but they refuse to pay for good software that took untold hours to write and will save you invaluable system resources.
I compared this to AppCleaner and although it's not as user friendly it does a better job for what it's meant. For some applications it was finding MORE associations. So think about that the next time you scarf down $5 worth of coffee.
I want to note that I just paid the $5 for this app, because it's a great one, and is worth $5 to me.
However (as it is currently labeled) it is NOT freeware and should NOT be labeled as such. It is 'shareware' at best, but I would call it '$5 + demo'.
I just used AppDelete to remove AppCleaner from my computer.
AppDelete suddenly held up the tip jar after a few uses, and announced to me that it has turned shareware for this latest version. I don't have anything against the principles of paid software. I DO however find the way in which the software communicated this information rude and distasteful. The information should have been shown when I was about to update the software, not when I'm about to use it.
Hi from Reggie the Developer for AppDelete! :-)
I want to thank all of you for your posts and I do apologize for any confusion regarding the "free" label for AppDelete 2.0. I am currently waiting for this site to update the listed info and I expect it will be done soon. As for the switch over to AppDelete 2.0 again I do apologize for any confusion as it was not meant to be misleading in any way. It's just simply the old version is being told a new one is available. You can read more about this on my site by clicking the Homepage link above, and please do email me from my site for any further questions. Also there is now a 2.0.1 update available for download. Thank you for you interest and for using AppDelete! :-)
Sincerely,
Reggie Ashworth
Comment and replies on VisualHub:
Had an avi file I'd been trying to figure out how to burn to DVD for years. Tried everything I could think of on both the mac and PC to convert it to some format that was writable to a video DVD. No luck. Until now. VisualHub not only did the conversion, it burned the whole disc for me as well. All in one step. Indispensable.
Very nice program. I use this now as my main video converter to convert misc. formats to DivX avi's. Between this and ffmpegx (now my backup), I don't come across many "problem" files anymore.
This is a great app, after trying ffmpegx and a couple of others this is the one I stuck with. Although I continue to use ffmpegx as a backup I haven't had to resort to it for quite awhile, that and the ipod touch preset works great.
Can do distributed encoding via Xgrid.
(Mac OS 10.4.3-10.4.11 required, wired network recommended, 100Mb/s or 1Gb/s).
See User's guide.
DISCONTINUED, CANCELLED, ETC
Techspansion has shut down.
iSquint and VisualHub, the popular video converter on Mac OS X have now gone open source. They also has got new names, Film Redux (VisualHub) and PunyVid (iSquint).

Thanks for the info, Ruby!
I have downloaded and tried the "new" VisualHub, now called Film Redux. But, unfortunately, it did not work.
First I tried to convert a WMV file to MPEG-4/H.264 and all I got was a few error messages and no converted file.
Then I tried to convert the same WMV file to MPEG and the same happened: a few error messages and no converted file.
I wonder if someone had the same problems...
I use an Intel-based iMac (Dual Core, 2 GHz), running Mac OS X Leopard (10.5.5).
I'm glad I kept the original iSquint DMG file. (Just in case I need to install it in another Mac.)

This is possibly the single most useful program on my mac. Hands down. As stated by others, the service from the developer is phenomenal as well. Highly recommended.

Haven't tried CleanApp that several people have mentioned, but I find this program to be much more thorough than AppZapper. And without the annoying "flashiness" either. Just does exactly what I want it to do.
