Comments and replies on Picasa Web Albums Uploader:
Does no longer work with iPhoto 7 (aka iLife '08)
Note: the standalone uploader resizes large photos to a width of 1600 by default. If you want to keep your large photos at their original size, you have to change this setting before uploading.
Version 1.1 adds support for iPhoto '08. Also the iPhoto export plug-in now can convert keywords in iPhoto to tags in Picasa Web Albums.
@marcus: some people think Picasa is not a priority for Google:
"Or take the case of Google’s Picasa, a Windows program that finds, organizes, and shares photos. Since that product mirrors much of the functionality of Apple’s iPhoto, there would seem to be little incentive for Google to create a Mac version. Yet, rather than ignore the platform, Google built a photo uploader that works with iPhoto—another 20-percent project—to allow Mac users to connect iPhoto to the Picasa Web Album feature for sharing photos online."
From: Macworld - Google’s Mac efforts begin to bear fruit.
Note: if you want to upload more than one batch of photos simultaneously, you can launch a second instance of the app with the quicksilver 'launch a copy' command.
Comments and replies on GrandPerspective:
@mcg
You won't find amok-running logfiles and other hidden files like that. And you don't get the overview where your space is wasted - I like to see on one glimpse that my movies take a good amount of my harddrive for example.
GrandPerspective is yet another clone of KDirStat- like Disk Inventory X, another OSX app, and WinDirStat, SequoiaView, etc for Windows. Of the two for OSX, GrandPerspective seems to be the fastest.
Disk Inventory X shows apps as singe files, not as folders, I find it more useful that way.
@norz: I don't think you have yet tried the latest release yet. If you do, you will find that GrandPerspective now (optionally) hides the contents of packages. :-)
Comments and replies on Skype:
2.7.0.49 is crappy, stay with 2.6.0.151 for the moment:
Contact grouping is very undone, re-arranging groups is not possible, drag and drop arranging neither. It does not put online contacts at the top, all three "view" options (show/hide offline, sort by status/kind) do not work.
There seem to be some good improvements, but unless the contacts-list does work (which is kind of important), I'll stay with 2.6.151.
The new version adds itself to your login items. For shame, Skype-coders, for shame.
@ bradbeattie:
I have installed version 2.7.0.49 yesterday and it did not add itself to the login items. The preferences were kept just the same, as they were in the previous version.
Since yesterday that Skype is unable to establish a connection. And this also happens with other Skype users. My brother uses a PC and he has the same problem: since yesterday he is unable to connect through Skype.
Anyboday knows what's happening? Is the whole Skype system down?
Skype is very much hit and miss. On one hand, it brought video conference to the masses and cheap conference calls to my company. On the other, the quality is mediocre on lots of calls, the service unreliable and the UI for the mac version rather drab. I downgraded to 2.6 stable from 2.7 beta due to the various issues introduced by the so-called 'high quality/resolution' calls, which do not work as advertised and are just a tie in with Logitech to sell more quickcams. (yes I know about the xml trick, but still). Recommended with reservations until IChat gets its stuff together.
For the most part for me, Skype performs as intended but I still get 1 in 7 (average) SMS stuck as 'pending' meaning I am never sure if the message was received at the other end by the intended recipient so I end up calling them.
Apparently this is more to do with the cell phone network not always sending a 'successful delivery' flag back to Skype. So you may find some cell phone networks behave better than others.
It works... just.
Comments and replies on Intaglio:
I seldom use vector graphics, but when I do I used Inkscape (free, requires X11). But since I got Intaglio with the macupdate-promo, I must say this feels really much more Mac-like. I like it!

cbserra: You can simply turn off WebClips in the Settings. And concerning the Ads - Camino/Firefox does also block them.
It is nice to have the unread count in the icon and to be able to switch accounts so fast - but for me, that was it already. Since it uses WebKit, there is no chat and no quick contacts. Limits me too much, I still prefer keeping Gmail open in a tab in Camino. More features, the single loss is the ability to drop pictures. Nevertheless, I like the idea, keep it going!

If you really think it is Apple who wants that Dollar, then you are greatly mistaken. ;-)
