nice app!
needs to broaden its audience for not scientific academics, however, and, most important, there is an urge to change that awful icon. It is hurting my eyes! Guys please, some aesthetic sense!

very nice app. however started costing $5 and now is $17, which is more than expensive, considering the current difficult times. but nice work, developer

0.92 is extremely laggish in Power PC, so I guess PPC users will have to be stuck on previous versions. Bad luck!

0.9.2 and 0.9.3 still slow and choppy for me on Intel Mac. Going back to 0.8.6 since the Mac version already had the fullscreen controls builtin (which would be a reason for me to upgrade on Windows).

Nevertheless, great app.

I love it! Much better thatn Yojimbo and Devonthink, I stiil has to see with usage how it handles large databases, but so far so good, beautiful and easy to use, and the reason to buy, a committed developer, not the type of get the money and run. I hope to see this app growing, because it could be one must.

I had been using Circus Ponies NoteBook for years when I made the switch. I transferred over 5GB of data from NoteBook's painfully slow file into Together. It took a long time but it was well worth it. Together is a very well written application with a top notch user interface and the developer is quick to respond to bugs and questions. Highly recommended.

my favorite of these kinds of apps. awesome stuff

some things i long for though:

- less memory usage after browsing files,
- and because of that memory issue the possibility to turn off previews when clicking on entries,
- some more flexibility as far as size is concerned for the icon previews (in portrait view mode). think iPhoto. When scrolling with preview turned on, it's also very slow, i think this could need some work.
- the ability to choose the quicknotes format (.txt would be nice).
- a function to ignore certain filetypes from importing. example: temporary download files (you know, these .part files). this would be more convenient for people who set their download folders to ones that are watched for automatic import.

thanks for this software

I love together - I love the interface (although journler is a close second here) and I love the fact that I can view pretty much any file type that I have - including Pages - which DevonThinkPro still doesn't offer.

I am a high school teacher and grad student so I have a ton of files + after trialing journler, DTPO, CircusPonies Notebook + together, I decided to go with together as it just had a more user-friendly 'feel' to it.

However - Once I began to import a lot of information, the program slowed down considerably, froze & required force quit more often that I would like.It doesn't seem to be built for large amounts of data like DevonThink is.

Like Cleveland above I would recommend the following tp the developer:
- less memory usage after browsing files,

- and because of that memory issue the possibility to turn off previews when clicking on entries,

- some more flexibility as far as size is concerned for the icon previews (in portrait view mode).

I think being able to turn the preview off or minimize the size might be exactly what is needed because at the moment I am inclined not to trust Together not to freeze permanently and to take all of my precious info with it

@shanshuprophecy: Icon previews are the culprit for high memory use, and that is something I will be addressing soon. You can disable those in the View Options panel if they're causing problems.

Together can easily handle libraries of 20,000 items or more on an Intel Mac, so it could be that you were having a problem specific to your library. Such problems are usually easily remedied, so please get in touch through the Support pages on my site - thanks. Also, I should mention that as Together keeps all the original files on disk, they will always be accessible.

The best feature for me is the shelf. I can easily drag stuff onto it, and then into the folder or collection I want without opening the main application window.

The other one is using a shortcut key to enter a quick note. It's increased the number of times I actually write down ideas and thoughts by an order of magnitude.

Wow, this applications has come a long way. Before I bought Yojimbo when Together was still called K.I.T. I tested it and found it lacking. Now I'm going to buy a copy and ditch Yojimbo for this.

Indispensible app for me now.

I've been using Devon Pro for a couple years now and Yojimbo before that. Yojimbo was way too simplistic and Devon Pro way too 'feature rich' for what I wanted to do. I need to place to drop things and easily find them later. In Togegther use tags and Smart Folders to help me organize my world and love the user interface in Together. Since I stated using it, I haven't had to refer to the manual once. After 25 years in the software business, that tells me it was designed well. Nice job Steve! Since I synchronize using ChronoSynch between my desktop and MacBook every day I LOVE the fact that Together uses the standard Mac OS folder system for organizing my data. With Devon Pro, every time I made a change to the database, the entire 300MB+ would have to be copied between my two computers. Now, it's just the files that have changed. Sweet! Good product, good price and good support. Keep up the great work!

Together has the best web page to PDF archive feature out there. Pages with the most complex layouts are captured faithfully, with all the text and links intact. This is way better than using File > Print > Save as PDF from the browser, which more often than not screws up the layout and colors.

I also prefer to capture web pages as PDF rather than web archives. EagleFiler uses the latter solution, and the one negative thing about web archives is that you'd still need a connection to the internet for the page to render properly if the layout is controlled by a separate CSS file, or files.

Certain widgets such as Vimeo and iTunes won't be captured though, and I've yet to find a utility which will do this reliably.

Everything else is done very well too. Tagging, grouping and folder management. Search works as advertised, very fast and the results are presented in an easy to digest fashion.

Start up and shut down is blindingly fast. One tip here is to turn off icon preview.

Fantastic bit of opensource ware here. Perfect for Youtube.
Shoot your video and save the .avi file to desktop. If you're like me, it may well be over 10min long......so use this great app to split it into sub 10min chunks for upload it.
Overall an essential bit of kit imo that's extremely easy to use (and very fast too).

Using sym links that I created in Terminal, I've rerouted all of my primary directories (pictures, music, movies, documents, etc) into my Knox archive, for complete system security. I've recently found that this works with email, as well (Mail.app).

As stated below, while Knox isn't a necessity, it's definitely convenient. After an hour or so of use I purchased a license and have been using it problem-free for over a year now.

Highly recommended!

Good app, but definitely overpriced.
Could be a way more useful with 50% off :)
At least I'd expect a bit richer feature set for that money…

Why do European customers have to pay the same price in Euros, instead of the equivalent? Since when is $ 29 = € 29?

avatar

by
markonen, 2008-11-05

The European price includes 22% VAT. As such, the price difference between the U.S. and EU prices is currently under 50 cents. Of course, this has fluctuated wildly with the exchange rates.
