Great. I've found several solutions that put the display to sleep in 1 minute, but this is the first that works immediately.
This doesn't work for me. I've tried both the widget and the application, and they both put my display to sleep for only a moment before the display comes back on :(
oooops. I've figured out how to make it work...if your 'Put the computer to sleep when it is inactive for...' option in the Energy Saver preference panel is set to 'Never' then Sleep Display won't work. My bad ;) Works great for me now :D

Anyone interested in this functionality MUST check out Nocturne (http://osx.iusethis.com/search?q=nocturne) by the Quicksilver people. Instead of turning the display completely off, Nocturne puts your display in 'night mode' which is much less blinding than the normal display with a side effect of looking cool :)
This app currently doesn't support Leopard. People who are looking for this functionality can check out a widget called "Off" ( http://osx.iusethis.com/app/off )
