Comment and replies on Minuteur:
Minuteur is an interesting utility, but it'd be quite a bit nicer if it were universal. It takes a good 4 seconds to load on my iMac, which is quite slow given the size and complexity of the app. It was just updated on July 27, but it's still not universal...
I love this app for it's simplicity and elegance. It's great.
This is one of the most well designed simple utilities that I've come across.
Uses little resources and does the job well.
This app is now Universal. Great !
Fantastic design! I use it to time everything from laundry loads to how long it is before I have to get up in the morning. :)
The in-dock timer and side "progress" bar are great for helping you get an idea of how much time you have left.
I even got the PalmOS version so I can have Minuteur on the go.
And yes, I donated a bit for this great app. :)
My favourite timer. Unfortunately, it requires Finder to function. I use Path Finder and leave the Finder closed all of the time. Minuteur launches Finder and ceases to function if you then quit Finder.
For a quick reminder, you can also use Quicksilver. See macosxhints.
You can't currently manage your reminders with QS, though.
@amberv: I also use Path Finder instead of the Finder, including to show the Desktop. However, leaving the Finder open and hidden, isn't a big sacrifice: it only uses around 10MB of real memory (on 10.4).
But I agree that this requirement is hard to understand... :)
version 5.0.1? this isn't correct, it's still 4.7.2.066
Comment and replies on AppZapper:
Great look! beautiful, and really useful if you are try every app that comes under your radar.
great little app.
C'mon, Zap sound, screen effect, AND addictive?
I don't know what I did before this app. Oh, I remember, my mac had constipation! An app. you will never want to be without!
I almost wanted to zap everything including appzapper itself just for fun!
If you're not admin it seems to get a little weird. I zapped a file in Applications and expected to get a prompt to enter the admin username and password. But instead it just zeroed the app and left it in the Applications folder, without icon or content... looked pretty weird.
You don't really need this application, unless you are really anal about removing all the files an app will leave on your system (like plists, pkg recipts etc).
OS X was designed so you can simply trash an app you no longer need, empty the trash, and go about your business.
And who wouldn't want to remove all the extra stuff an app leaves on your system? Awesome app. 'nuff said.
Huh, useless.
Lauching a program each time you want to delete another one OR leaving tiny files in folders you never open.
Which is more annoying ?
I bet this program weights more than the stuff it deletes.
Stop the geekness.
Great to have!
Before this app came-out my OS would build-up lots of junk (application support files and prefs) from old apps, and I'd have to go through manually to clean them out every few months to a year to reclaim hard drive space.
It also makes uninstalling system "extensions" very easy too. No more digging around in the Library folder needed.

I tried it for a while, but never catch. The interface is very interesting and innovative but i never got used to it. Anyway, it's great to see people trying completely new things
