@zxspectrum: That's because the application version on iusethis is wrong, or the version that the application reports is wrong.

Do Get Info (Cmd+i) on the application and see what version is being reported.

Sounds like a cool idea if iusethis didn't lag so far behind in updating some of its apps

We are community driven, everyone can update an app! So we can all make this work by updating the apps as we find updates.

(Use the "Suggest new version" link)

As I understand it, iUseThis isn't a version tracker, and as such is a poor choice for this kind of app. I hate to say it, because I like the devs and the concept, but it just doesn't perform as well as the much simpler Application Update widget.

Just like Arne says...this is the chance for a community driven updating plattform. It does not depend on HTML parsing like AppUpdate widget, its open and everyone can contribute. I don't see the point why its a poor choice. And well, its getting better. Btw., AppFresh uses the developers feeds as well, not only iusethis.com.

30% of the time gives an incorrect .app version!

Why is there only the option to register a new iusethis account in the preferences? Shouldn't there be a "use an existing account" option?

The new release fixes some problems related to sparkle update checking. AppFresh should perform much better now.

For existing account infos you do not need to use to register, just put those into the "Email / Screen name" and "Password" input fields. No need to press a button.

Eh, this app is hit or miss. Quite often it will say there's an update, and even after I install it, it still thinks I have the old version. That's probably the biggest issue I have with AppFresh.

You could pass on this app, you wouldn't miss out on much. In most cases you're better off just relying on each application's update checks.

captsaltyjack, check out the new release, the problem you had has been fixed.

Haven't updated my mac apps in quite a long time, several months at least. This was invaluable to me this evening and will continue to be so.

It launched without a hitch and updated over 90 apps, with no problems whatsoever.

Absolutely love the feature where you can chose the download link, very clever indeed!

Thank you Devs =)

@ velocet

What is AppDate and where can I find it/compare it to AppFresh?

I like this app. We are in need of one central update program. Some apps don't autoupdate or always ask to install or you have to go back to website to find another version. Many people never update their programs because they forget or are too lazy. This is bad because updates can fix security holes, system freezes & or file corruption/deletion. AppFresh is not complete but is a great start on something that will become very useful.

Good...but why make the downloader a modal dialog? Why should the whole app become unusable just because it's downloading one file? This should be done in the background (like every web browser does).

For the most part, this app does what it claims. It is a bit annoying that it uses modal dialogs for pretty much everything, causing the system to bounce the icon on the dock and announce via speakable items that it needs attention. I hope the developer can adjust this behavior in the future.

However, there is one big issue with this app -- it relies on iusethis data being up-to-date, which it seems is not true currently. Earlier in the week I manually checked a handful of apps I have, and found that two were not up-to-date. One was coincidentally released the day before so I can understand it not being updated here yet, but the other was updated weeks ago.

I filed "new version" reports for both of these apps, but I don't know how long it will take to be made live on the site. So until then, AppFresh will continue to report outdated versions as being up-to-date.
