This software no longer serves a purpose. Applications distributed in .sit format should be banned from this site entirely.

Well the lack of password-protected archive support in Mac OS X is annoying

buggy and unreliable, in desperate need of a drop in replacement.
PS, if stuffit starts making empty folders copy and other file into the folder and voila all files appear

Zip for personal and disposable file transfers and DMG (Mac OS X Disk Images) for all release software.

I can warmly recommend The Unarchiver as an alternative. It handles all the format StuffIt Expander handles, except for SITX. On the other hand, it handles a lot of formats SE can't. Also, it's a lot faster, doesn't crash all the time, and it's open source.

too bad there's no "I hate this" icon. Stuffit and Stuffit Expander are huge piles of donkey excrement. The first thing I do with any .sit file is either zip it or dmg it. DropDMG works great for this. Then I DELETE the sit archive.

I can only agree with all the negative opionions about this dirty piece of software. Intrusive, reassigns file associations without any user permission asked for...it's the mac application I hate the most.

The WORST. If would at least just shut up and leave me alone, I might still be using it. As per everbody else, The Unarchiver handles all .sit files except the most recent (if a developer is still distributing .sit, email her for a dmg or tarball), as well as everything else, quietly.

Hmm, v11.0.2 seems pretty good. It appears they've fixed up a lot of the stupid little things.

Stuffit apps are like RealPlayer, a useless apps no one really needs and that bloods your Mac.
Stay away from this malware and use The Unarchiver instead

Love the app, hate the company that makes updating/upgrading such a nightmare. With archiving built-in to OSX, there's little need for this anymore. But I still use it on occasion.

Ok, I need some help please! I deleted stuffit expander from applications, but it is still on my system and I am at a loss to find any uninstaller. What is worse is that firefox will now only try to open files with stuffit even when I have the unarchiver on my machine as well. Any help would be much appreciated. The app is decent, but I must recommend against it considering the developers do not care enough to make it even relatively easy to get rid of (but maybe I'm just stupid, idk).

@diggn_it, the installer has an option to run the uninstall.
