Comment and replies on > cd to ...:
@ ytrewq1: well you don't need to have quicksilver and you don't have to know how to make triggers ;-)
thx for the tip. one more thing that gets kicked out of my toolbar . . .
This seems like a really cool app and I appreciate that the source was provided but it'd be even better if it worked with iTerm... I looked at the source but, not being a developer, didn't know how to hack in that functionality. Any help?
@ ytrewq1 & aol
I believe there is one major advantage that this application has, over the method that you pointed out, about using a Quicksilver trigger; namely, this app doesn't open up TWO Terminal windows (that is, if you're using Terminal, at least).
That quirk has always been very annoying to me and this is the first time I see someone providing a means of doing it, without the pesky "bug" occuring.
@ bitnix: well that one is true. I must admit, that i only tried this one to verify your statement (i used to use "Open Terminal"). The very first time it DID open a second window. Later (even after quitting Terminal.app) it didn't do that anymore. (???)
Anyway: nice app but for now I'll stay with the quicksilver shortcut.
@factoryjoe: when using quicksilver and having the iTerm-plugin installed you cn actually do that . . .
@factoryjoe re: iTerm. The README for cd to says:
To use with iTerm or X11/xterm, using the finder get info on ">cd to ..." from it's installed location and under the section labeled "plugins" enable the proper plugin (while disabling the others). Next time you run ">cd to ..." it should with the correct application.
Useful! I had my own AppleScript for this, but the toolbar icon is actually easier to use.
When it comes to Quicksilver tip suggested by ytrewq1, it has one important flaw. You have to have a directory selected in Finder for it to work. I prefer a solution that works also when a file inside the directory is selected.
Comment and replies on Chamonix:
I used to use Chmox but a couple of its drawer tabs (including search) don't seem to appear any more. I tried xCHM but it only seems to be able to handle one .chm file at a time. So, now I'm using Chamonix :-)
Great application but absolutely horrible icon. I found a much better one and now I'm happy with it =). Seems to be the only CHM viewer on mac with search functionality.
Huh? This thing doesn't work at all for me (OS 10.4.9). I get a blank page no matter what chm file I open...
This also fails for me using 10.4.9 - just getting a blank page.
I created some replace icons, so it looks much nicer now: :)
Warning: This application breaks with the Safari 3 Beta.
Comment and replies on Proxi:
Works fairly well w/ my AirClick USB.
Got things set up today so that I can bring up a QS command window populated w/ the Triggers (Catalog) object. I can subsequently descend into the object to see a list of triggers and then choose one to execute -- all from the AirClick USB ;-)
I don't understand some parts of specifying AirClick triggers [1] so my arrangement is a bit odd (e.g. there's no navigating leftwards -- just up, down, and right -- because I ran out of buttons) -- hopefully I can figure this out at some point.
[1] How to get the multiple buttons at the same time stuff working w/o interfering w/ existing triggers that use those buttons separately...
Comment and replies on Visor:
I switched from using Visor to just making a hotkey trigger in Quicksilver for 'Terminal.app' 'Toggle Application'.
http://blog.bitxtender.com/2006/11/04/the-perfect-visor/ has instructions on how to make Visor independent of Terminal running, without a dock icon etc.
Ugh, screwed the comment up below, please mod it spam. Here it is corrected:
Oh in the comment below, I've assumed you're following the instructions from wombert's link below. If you're not then use this command for the top-left key binding instead (it doesn't make a tidle on my mac):
defaults write com.apple.Terminal VisorHotKey -dict keyCode -int 10 modifiers -int 256
You can just press any key in the visor preferences with a modifier key, then open the correct preference file (~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.VisorTerminal or com.apple.Terminal as appropriate) with Property List Editor and change the VisorHotKey/modifiers value to 256 to remove the need to press the modifier key more than likely, if you wanted a different key.
Seems interesting, but the Quartz animation don't work for me... Maybe I'll again later with the instructions and comments from http://blog.bitxtender.com/2006/11/04/the-perfect-visor/
The new version is fantastic in Leopard. Even supports tabs.
This just transformed my Rails development workflow.

I haven't used this app, but I do something similar via a Quicksilver trigger for "Finder Selection" "Go To Directory in Terminal". Any comments as to what sort of advantages there might be to using this app as compared to using an appropriate Quicksilver trigger?
