    It isn't, in fact, sufficient to just delete an application. Installing an application distributes many files throughout your System using space of your Hard Drive unnecessarily.
    AppCleaner can find all these small files and safely delete them.
    The toolbar has the following useful features.
    Drop an application onto the AppCleaner icon and AppCleaner searches for the related files and then by clicking the red cross it deletes them.
    If you change your mind, just click on the green arrow back button.

  • Boot Camp

    Boot Camp is a MacOS X.5 Leopard feature that manages to install a (licensed) Windows XP or Vista operating system on a Mac computer in a dedicated partition.

    A program called Boot Camp Assistant helps in creating a new disk partition on a Mac machine keeping all the data safe. When Windows is installed on that partition, the drivers needed can be found on Leopard DVD.

    Boot Camp installs a bootloader to choose the operating system to load. It can be run at startup by pressing ALT button. Boot Camp even provides an automatic PC Key remapping program.

    All the drivers Apple provides are Microsoft WHQL-Certified.

    This program used to be a public beta before Leopard's final release. Now it continues to work on Tiger systems but can't be downloaded any more from Apple's website nor it is supported on any OS than Leopard.
    From early version of Leopard, it seemed that one could perform a system hybernation on both system to fast-switch between the two. Now this feature is not present.

    How does it work? Just select some folders to compress and Clusters will silently work in the background to compress the files contained on those folders, regaining disk space. Whenever you use any of those files, Snow Leopard will read it like any other file in the system - it will simply take less space.

    The Linux kids have been doing this forever. Widgets are neat, but they don't have the tty non-anti-aliased grittiness of Geektool scripts.

  • Google Chrome

    Google Chrome is a web browser under development by Google, created to be a modern platform for web pages and applications. It utilizes very fast loading of web pages and has a V8 engine, which is a custom built JavaScript engine. Because Google has used parts from Apple's Safari and Firefox browsers, they are making the entire project open source.

  • Growl

    Growl is a notification system that allows any application to send it a notification, and then it displays it. You can (for example) be notified that you have new email, or that a download completed, etc.

    Support for Applescript, Perl, Python, TCL, Cocoa, Carbon, Ruby and more being added.

  • GrowlMail

    GrowlMail is a plug-in for Apple Mail that posts a Growl notification every time new mail arrives containing the text of the message.

  • Hazel

    Hazel is your personal housekeeper, organizing and cleaning folders based on rules you define. Hazel can also manage your trash.

    Organize your files using a familiar rule interface. Filter on the file's name, type, date, the site or email address it came from and more. And do more than just file. You can set color labels, Spotlight keywords and comments and even archive files. In addition, Hazel can manage your Trash for you, relieving you of having to empty it yourself.

    All this is done automatically in the background allowing you to focus on your real work.

    What's new.

    Leap 2 has been totally rewritten to use the new industry standard OpenMeta tag conventions so that you can share tags across numerous programs. But not only that, Leap 2 has numerous user interface tweaks and improvements to make tagging, rating and browsing your files even easier.

    A more natural way.

    With Leap you find things based on your natural memory of that file. “Hhmm it was a big photoshop file of a basketball court” or “Something I tagged important” or “A word document somewhere in my documents folder”. With the Finder though, it's more like “I think it might be called bball.psd and that I put it in the originals folder in images in the Project 29 folder which I think I put in Documents... nope, not there... where did I put it?"

    Folders and rigid hierarchies might have made sense back when we had hundreds of files, but we're now swimming in images, files, movies and other data. That's where tags come in. Tags are keywords that you assign to a file. This makes it extremely easy to find documents, regardless of their location. Why hunt through an arcane hierarchy of folders and files to find the document we want? Apple's Finder first came out over 20 years ago and we think it's time for a new approach to finding, organizing and browsing your most important documents.

  • Little Snitch

    A firewall protects your computer against unwanted guests from the Internet. But who protects your private data from being sent out? Little Snitch does!

    Little Snitch informs you whenever a program attempts to establish an outgoing Internet connection. You can then choose to allow or deny this connection, or define a rule how to handle similar, future connection attempts.
